Lampeter comeback in testing conditions

Llangadog have started the Season poorly. Until this game not a solitary point gained in the League. This record looked a contradiction, when they scored two converted tries in the first ten minutes. On a damp day with intermittent showers, saw the boot used for territory by both sides. A line out inside the Lampeter 22 five minutes into the game, won by Lampeter, the ball was passed for the supposed clearance kick, and missed by the intended recipient. The ball crossed the try line, and pounced on by the very alert Telor Dyer. Four minutes later, a long kick fielded by the home side fullback, was hoofed towards the right touchline. Winger Craig Morgan expertly gathered, and with minimum resistance ran in half the length of the field to touch down under the posts. Lampeter then began a series of forward drives seeking to score before the break. For all of ten minutes they were pounding the Llangadog line with drive after drive and found the home side defence in excellent form. However in this period the home side conceded five penalties and two yellow cards. Still no way through for Lampeter. The question arose at this point why no penalty try was awarded. Lampeter again crossed the line with away support claiming a try, but the Referee indicated the ball to be held up and blew for the interval. Score :14 - 0 Second half began with the kicking game continuing. Conditions no doubt preventing a running competition. Just as the third quarter was coming to an end, Lampeter were awarded a five metre scrum. Some momentum was gained and Meirion Jones at number 8 touched down. Converted from wide by Rhys Douglas. With ten minutes to go, Lampeter were awarded a penalty almost in front of the posts. Taken and scored by Rhys Douglas. Lampeter were now in the driving seat, and with time running out took a line out within the home side 22. Quickly formed a driving maul, and, there again, Meirion Jones was on hand to score his second try of the match, again converted from wide by Rhys Douglas.

Final score Llangadog 14, Lampeter 17. A fine effort by both sides, and, in consolation, Llangadog had a losing bonus point.
